Court of Appeals to visit Mississippi Valley State University March 31 The Mississippi Court of Appeals will convene on the campus of Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena at 1 p.m. March 31. A three-judge panel will hear oral arguments in a criminal case at the W.A. Butts Social Science Building Auditorium. The Court of Appeals periodically schedules oral arguments on college campuses and occasionally at other locations as a teaching tool for students and the public. It is known as the Court on the Road program. The Court of Appeals also will hear oral arguments on the campus of the University of Mississippi at the Robert C. Khayat Law Center on April 21. Judges will hear arguments in a civil case at 1:30 p.m., and a criminal case at 3 p.m. The case to be heard at MVSU is the appeal of Charles L. Kuebler’s conviction of murder in the death of Tamra Stuckey. Stuckey died of a gunshot wound to the head in Kuebler’s Jackson apartment on June 30, 2010. A Hinds County Circuit Court jury convicted Kuebler of murder on Dec. 7, 2011, and Circuit Judge Winston Kidd sentenced him to life in prison. Kuebler is represented by attorneys David P. Voisin of Jackson and Edward Blackmon Jr. of Canton. The Attorney General’s office is represented by Special Assistant Attorney General Melanie Thomas. The appeal is cause No. 2012-KA-01825-COA. The oral arguments are expected to last approximately an hour. The appellant and appellee are each allowed 30 minutes. People wishing to watch the proceedings are asked to be in their seats 15 minutes before the oral arguments are scheduled to begin. The oral arguments will not be broadcast via the court’s Internet web site, since the Court of Appeals is convening a special session away from its camera-equipped courtroom.
